Apparently you can disable most of the functions in word and set the background to black, but it was easier just to fire up the text editor I already had installed. Once I had finished the first draft, I just copy and pasted into Word to do the spell/grammar checking and formatting.Damohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09874193098681605362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5584699251999622098.post-61891037169599745542017-05-01T12:19:04.177+02:002017-05-01T12:19:04.177+02:00Hi folks. You can email me at jasonhepp@gmail.com - thanks!

There have been some great entries and I'm just reading through them at the moment. I'm really impressed with the levels of creativity and imagination going on! That said, I don't really have enough entries to make a book of it as yet, so I'm going to extend the deadline until the summer solstice on June 21st.

So, if you didn't quite find the time, or if you know someone else who might want to enter - please take note! I'm going to be cross posting on the Green Wizards forum (which, at present, I can't access - if any admins read this please help!), so hopefully we'll get some more quality stories coming through.

If you've already entered at this point I'll let you know if your story has been selected in due course.

Thanks again - and happy Beltane (or Samhain if you're in the Antipodes).

JasonJason Heppenstallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17886109260870545074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5584699251999622098.post-80714321252612116752017-05-01T10:31:50.208+02:002017-05-01T10:31:50.208+02:00Thanks - I'm just starting to read the entries...Thanks - I'm just starting to read the entries now :)Jason Heppenstallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17886109260870545074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5584699251999622098.post-42589979377713229302017-05-01T10:31:09.241+02:002017-05-01T10:31:09.241+02:00Thanks - it's in the running! Thanks - it's in the running!Jason Heppenstallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17886109260870545074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5584699251999622098.post-90092382865020695632017-05-01T10:30:32.293+02:002017-05-01T10:30:32.293+02:00Thanks Damo - you're entry is in. Nice to see a story featuring one of my favourite parts of the world!

As for writing on computer screens, I tend to use whatever is available. Currently I'm using Word, as I got a free two-year subscription, but I ignore 99% of its features. I'm probably most happy with a basic word processor that doesn't try and tell you every fifth word you write is spelled wrong! Apparently George R.R.Martin writes using a basic command line editor - hardcore! For this story I used a very basic text editor (notepad++) which has no spell/grammar checking or formatting options. I found myself getting distracted with Microsoft Word and constantly stepping back to edit instead of just writing. Notepad++ also let me set the screen to be dark with light text which I found easier on the eyes. Might try an old school monochrome green scheme next :p

Damohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09874193098681605362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5584699251999622098.post-15374407779862526222017-04-29T08:26:49.324+02:002017-04-29T08:26:49.324+02:00Hehe, love it. I got outlines for 4 in the series, each around 500 pages I think.

Your opinion of the quality of the material is up to you. lol.

REReverse Engineerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07062239687986775433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5584699251999622098.post-3869468623339554342017-03-17T22:57:15.710+01:002017-03-17T22:57:15.710+01:00I suppose, what I meant, was that future stories t...I suppose, what I meant, was that future stories that are mirror images of the past are not what we might envisage. I've read stories that have far too much "Pa, collecting eggs from the henhouse and wistfully thinking 'bout the good ol' days" ... it could be John Steinbeck in the mirror.

By definition, the future is path dependent on the past, meaning that it won't be the same. Transitional stuff would be the most interesting, in my opinion. The move from abundance industrialism to scarcity industrialism is going to be an interesting phase.

And as for the far future, Frank Herbert's 'Dune', for example, would be a kind of holy grail of imagining.Jason Heppenstallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17886109260870545074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5584699251999622098.post-35242506654540184882017-03-17T22:48:27.696+01:002017-03-17T22:48:27.696+01:00I'm waiting to see if it's an epic, first....I'm waiting to see if it's an epic, first.Jason Heppenstallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17886109260870545074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5584699251999622098.post-57473787557147310402017-03-17T03:54:11.546+01:002017-03-17T03:54:11.546+01:007 - Stories must not simply be "horses and he...7 - Stories must not simply be "horses and hearses" i.e. a re-hash of pre-industrial Europe, supposedly set in the future

I can see why you make this condition, but I wonder how useful it will be. The history of homo sapiens covers just about every non-industrial culture possible, with all plot lines included. The only thing one could do to make PI-Fi different from historical fiction is to include remnants from the industrial age in the story.

I would be more interested in reading about the transition from the industrial to the post-industrial (Trans-Fi?). I'm sure that there would be plenty of dramatic action involved too. But maybe people would be put off by the amount of death and destruction necessarily involved.Joehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01251330546889158364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5584699251999622098.post-34589842914629045992017-03-17T03:41:07.709+01:002017-03-17T03:41:07.709+01:00You did not include my Serial Novel "How I Su...You did not include my Serial Novel "How I Survived Collapse". :(

Most recent publication Chapter 17:

http://www.doomsteaddiner.net/blog/2017/03/03/how-i-survived-collapse-chapter-17/

However, I am through Chapter 21 and about halfway through the first of the Trilogy, covering the pre-collapse preparations.

Kenny the Kollapsnik is torn between two female love intersts, Kirsten and Karen.
